Toolkit
This toolkit was created to support aspiring and existing community garden organizers in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its main sections are on the key steps to starting a garden, how to build and install a garden, and sustaining and growing the garden. It includes practical tools, tips, and support to help along the way.
Originally written in 2011, the toolkit is based on research on best practices for community gardens. To gather these best practices, we reviewed reports, resources, and guides on community gardens across North America. We also talked to community garden organizers across Newfoundland and Labrador to make it tailored to our province.
The 2024 update adds a whole new section, “Local Gardens in Action.” It highlights special features, structures, and more from gardens across Newfoundland and Labrador. Many sections are also updated to share new insights and experiences from organizers and better support community gardens.
